I’m Sue Cocks and when I first started in business I thought that my ideal client was A.N.Y.B.O.D.Y, you know, just send me anyone who will pay me, get some money in the bank, I don’t care what there background is I was just grateful to get ANY clients that I gave little thought to specialising. As I began to panic due to a shortage of clients I finally began to tap into my authentic self and worked out ‘who’ my ideal client was.
I worked out that for me it was more about connection and the experience of being with my ideal clients; I didn't just want a 'one-off' consultation with them, I and they wanted much more out of the experience. When you connect deeply with your ideal clients, the time spent together flows; you build a rapport so quickly that you feel like you''ve known them for a lifetime instead of just a few hours. Your ideal client benefits so much more than you will ever know and business relationships are built and they come back to you time and time again.
It was also about me honouring that I don't do or like complicated & dated processes, I find them overwhelming and clients go away confused & upset. For example styling a client the 1970's way is so humiliating...stand them by a wall, draw around them, get the tape measure out and point out their flaws....that leaves me totally cold and it doesn't do wonders for the client either, I hated the experience and vowed never to put my clients through it. That is not connection to a client and delivering a memorable experience.
I work using simple confidence enhancing steps, I want my ideal clients to love and enjoy their time with me and that is what I'm about.

Sue how do I choose a training company/home study programme?
Indecision, that’s the main reason people never book a course or home study programme…..they go round and round and round all the training courses that they can find, get totally confused and get into a right pickle… the end result of which is indecision. This process can go on and on for months and sadly years.
In order to be able to make the right decision for you, you first of all need to write down a list of your requirements:
What you want to train in
How you like to do this
What’s best meets your needs
Listen to your intuition/gut instinct
Who do you want to work with
What do you want to offer as services/programmes/events using your creativity
Once you have your list then you can only view the companies that meet your needs the best
What you must not do:
Listen to people who do not understand what you want to do with your life
Feel pressured to sign up
Do a course that someone else did, but doesn’t feel right with you – we are all different

v It quickly became apparent the men also needed my image services so I added those
v I developed corporate services as I was approached and did more training in order to do so
v I started to run events
v I was asked to offer personal shopping across the country
v I started to give talks so I joined Toastmasters International to learn the art of public speaking
v I was offered contracts on cruise ships as a speaker
v I was prompted to start my own training academy
v I’ve developed my home study programmes
v I found my mentors to help grow and stretch me and my businesses
Did I think for one minute when I started my training 8 years ago where I would be in several years time and what I would be offering. NO. It’s been the most amazing journey, I’ve jumped several times right out of my comfort zone in order to offer more; I could have let fear and indecision hold me back but I refuse to let it because I know that each opportunity is worth exploring to see where it takes me to which is often the next level of business for me. If you so wish, after you have been trading for 1 year you can take the city & guilds examinations with either The Federation of Image Consultants (TFIC) or the AICI. Please note, expect to pay around £500+ to do this.
